Representing four different JBS Australia Divisions, across four different categories, JBS Australia was awarded a total of seven medals, including Grand Champion Branded Beef of Show (Australia’s best steak) and Champion MSA Graded Branded Beef at the Royal Queensland Awards (RQA) in Brisbane on Friday, 18 May 2024.

Grand Champion Branded Beef of Show was awarded to Andrews Meat Industries brand, W. Black, receiving the highest score of the competition of 94.8. Produced out of the JBS Prime City feedlot and processed at JBS Riverina in New South Wales, W. Black was also awarded the gold medal in the Wagyu Class AUS-MEAT Marble Score 7+.  Being relatively new on the market, these wins elevate the premium wagyu brand W. Black to be further sought after in the high-end food service industry of the select export markets it is available in.

Andrews Meat Industries CEO Peter Andrews, expressed sincere thanks for the team behind the success of W. Black.

“It was unexpected and a great honour to see W. Black crowned Grand Champion, especially since this was our first attempt at competition for this brand,” Peter said.

JBS Southern Division took out the Champion MSA Graded Branded Beef award for their new MB4+ natural grain fed brand Portoro. Produced exclusively out of Yambinya Station in New South Wales, Portoro also received the Gold medal in the Grain Fed Class receiving a score of 89.8. Portoro is underpinned by the JBS Farm Assurance Natural Grain program.

JBS Southern Beef Sales Manager Robert Ryan said, these awards back up the Portoro brands win in Rockhampton earlier in the month, taking out the National Beef Carcase Competition at Beef Week.

“These two complementary competitions demonstrate carcase performance correlating to superior eating quality,” Robert said.

Taking out the silver medal in the Grain Fed Class is JBS Northern Division’s MB2+ Riverina Angus brand. Riverina Angus is exclusively produced out of New South Wales only integrated Farm, Feedlot and Processing Facility.

Awarded Silver in the Grass Fed Class, MB2+ Great Southern Pinnacle is produced by JBS Southern Division. This grass fed program is sourced from JBS Farm Assured producers spanning New South Wales, Victoria, Tasmania and South Australia.

White Stripe Foods, a division of Andrews Meat Industries, took out the bronze award for their White Pyrenees Lamb in the Branded Lamb – more than 20kg class. White Pyrenees is processed in JBS’s Brooklyn plant in Victoria.
